Royal Rumble 2010: The Rated R Rumble

WWE “Royal Rumble” 2010

As the Royal Rumble PPV was closing in, Edge had been out for 6 months recovering from his torn Achilles tendon. However, in spite of the multiple reports stating that his injury was potentially career-threatening and needed a year to heal, the fans still had a fresh memory from 2008. In fact, to the astonishment of the New York crowd, Cena had come back prematurely from a torn pectoral injury to win the match. Fast forward to 2010, Cena, Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels were battling it out as entrant n° 29 was about to come. As soon as the music hit, the crowd gave one of the biggest pops of the PG era to the returning Edge. As soon as he entered the ring, he speared the three before eliminating Jericho as a payback for the rants of his former tag team partner. A few minutes later, he eliminated Cena to win the match.

At WrestleMania, Edge lost to Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship. He got a little payback at Extreme Rules in a Steel Cage. Besides the Royal Rumble match though, the 2010 PPV also featured a great bout between then World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker and Rey Mysterio, in which the Deadman retained. Sheamus, on the other hand, won by DQ against Randy Orton to retain his WWE Championship.
